It looks like Mike Green could be in the midst of taking that next step. Lost in the defense’s Week 2 blunder was a standout performance from Green. Now, he gets to try and back up that showing against the Dallas Cowboys offensive line.
The Cowboys’ pass protection has been solid in 2026. It won’t be an easy challenge to scale—they rank 10th in pass block win rate so far, per ESPN. So it’s a big test for the second-year edge rusher to sharpen his skills.
It’s also favorable in some ways. Dallas’ tackles haven’t been all that great. If Green can take advantage of their early-season struggles, he might find some much-needed momentum. And with his demeanor, there’s no telling how far he could go with it.
Are we about to see a breakout from Green in Week 3?
Mike Green could level up in Week 3 against the Dallas Cowboys
If Mike Green didn’t show early signs of progress in 2026, he was at risk of becoming an afterthought. Seriously. He was coming off an underwhelming 3.5-sack rookie campaign, the Ravens signed Trey Hendrickson to a four-year, $112 million contract, and Green only played 17 defensive snaps in Week 1.
Thankfully, Week 2 changed that tune. He was on the field for 32 snaps, notched his first sack of the season, and earned a Pro Football Focus grade of 80.1.
Green has found the momentum he needed…can he keep it?
The Cowboys’ offensive line is formidable, but it’s strongest along the interior. Luckily, on passing downs, Green shouldn’t have to worry about Tyler Booker and Cooper Beebe. Their tackles are massive human beings, though.
Left tackle Tyler Guyton is in his third year and stands at 6-foot-7, 325 pounds. Veteran right tackle Terence Steele is 6-foot-6, 320 pounds. For the smaller-framed Green, those two could cause him problems.
However, neither has been great in pass protection. Despite having a 74.0 overall grade, per PFF, Guyton has a subpar 61.9 pass-blocking grade. He’s also allowed four pressures and one QB hit in 2026.
Steele, on the other hand, has been nothing short of horrific. He’s earned a 48.3 PFF grade and a 54.2 pass-blocking grade. Add in three pressures, one sack, and one penalty, and Dallas fans probably have their hearts in their throats every time they see him drop back in pass protection.
Sure, that duo should be able to out-reach Green and his 32-inch arms with ease, but the numbers say it’s a favorable matchup for Green.
The 23-year-old has a chance to use their hulking size against them, too. His best traits are his speed, bend, athleticism, and motor. If he can use his lower center of gravity to bend the edge, he’ll have opportunities at Dak Prescott in the backfield. The laws of physics might work against Guyton and Steele.
If he can win those one-on-one battles, Green may be able to hit his stride. He was considered a first-round talent by many coming out of the 2025 NFL Draft, and if he levels up, Baltimore’s defensive line would start to look extremely scary.
