With a brand new coaching staff, excitement is in the air for Baltimore Ravens fans. Newly hired offensive coordinator Declan Doyle is, of course, a big part of this excitement. And after his latest comments, fans should be even more thrilled about Doyle.

During a recent interview, Doyle delivered a simple but powerful message: "We're hunting explosive plays."

Focusing on making the Ravens' offense more explosive is logical. There's no denying that Lamar Jackson will benefit the most from this change, and he feels primed to return to his MVP standards.

Declan Doyle's vision will help Lamar Jackson return to his MVP self

The explosiveness of the Ravens' offense certainly needs to be improved upon. On the positive side, Lamar led the league with 13.3 yards per completion last season. The two-time MVP has undeniably developed into one of the league's best pocket passers. Furthermore, Derrick Henry's presence made the Ravens' run game one of the most explosive in the league.

On the flip side, Baltimore ranked dead last in passing attempts. While it could be argued that Jackson's injury played a role, the Ravens ranked second-to-last in passing attempts the season before. The Ravens also ranked just 24th in EPA per pass.

Simply put, Todd Monken failed to properly utilize Lamar's gifts as a passer. Frankly, it's amazing what Lamar has done while never having a play-caller who has fully taken advantage of his abilities.

Doyle is immediately making it clear that this will change. If you're a Ravens fan, this possibility is exhilarating -- but if you are a fan of a rival team, this idea should concern you.

Last season, the Chicago Bears ranked in the top 10 in both EPA per pass and passing attempts per game. Doyle wasn't the play-caller, but he was heavily involved in the offensive schemes, and his experience with the Bears is a clear plus.

With Doyle's open focus on making the offense more explosive and the theme of this offseason being change, it may be fair to expect the Ravens to upgrade their wide receiver core in the spring.

The previous coaching staff had its shortcomings. However, in all fairness, the Ravens didn't have the personnel to fully lean into an explosive pass game. This can't be the case again. Whether it's in free agency or the draft, Eric DeCosta must find a way to give Lamar more weapons, and there's rumors that wide receiver A.J. Brown could be a possibility for Baltimore.

From all angles, Ravens fans should be delighted by Doyle's comments and the team's focus on building an explosive offense. If everything goes as planned, there's no reason Lamar can't win his third MVP in this new system, and this, of course, will likely be paired with a sizable amount of team success.
