The Baltimore Ravens have used this offseason to make changes to their roster and coaching staff. They are looking to capitalize with quarterback Lamar Jackson at the helm, and the move they made at offensive coordinator could bring this team to a new level.
The Ravens hired Declan Doyle, who replaced Todd Monken as the offensive coordinator. While the move was a shocker, Doyle is a play caller who can bring something new to this offense, especially since he comes from the Sean Payton and Ben Johnson tree.
In an article written by ESPN's Ben Solak, he discussed Doyle's potential impact, but it's something we won't know until the season starts.
"The Ravens' floor on offense is very high given their quarterback. Their ceiling belongs to Doyle, who by reputation is ready to answer the call. But a deep bag on offense is only valuable if the coordinator knows just what to call in just what moment, and can call it with confidence that all 11 players will execute their roles. We won't know whether Doyle really has the magic touch his two mentors have had until the headset comes on."
If Doyle pushes all the right buttons, the Ravens offense can hit another level in 2026, and that could go a long way.
It's obvious Declan Doyle can finally change everything for the Ravens
Doyle came into the league as an offensive assistant under Sean Payton in New Orleans before following him to Denver. He then joined Johnson in Chicago, where he held the offensive coordinator title in 2025. Even though Johnson called the plays, Doyle played a pivotal role.
He was heavily involved in film study and crafting game plans for the upcoming matchup. So even though he wasn't making the play call, he was seriously included in the prep. It's also worth mentioning that Doyle is just 28 years old, making him the youngest coordinator in the NFL.
Despite the lack of experience, he learned from two of the best play callers in the league. If he's able to bring a combination of the two over to Baltimore, the Ravens have a chance to do something special on offense.
Payton's system is very wordy and complex. Meanwhile, Johnson loves pre-snap motions and shifts. In addition, both systems have plenty of different personnel groups and on-field alterations.
It will take time for players to adapt to what Doyle wants to run, but if things hit on all cylinders, the Ravens have a chance to be dynamic on offense. And considering that Jesse Minter is taking over as head coach, fans should feel confident the defense will be stellar, especially after what Minter did with the Chargers' defense between 2024 and 2025.
Time will tell what happens, but from the outside looking in, Doyle has a chance to do something special with the Ravens, and that could push them into a different tier as they chase a Super Bowl.
