New offensive coordinator Declan Doyle is primed to bring several notable positive changes to the Baltimore Ravens this season. Doyle's heavy focus on play-action could help the Ravens' offense reach another level and this makes him a perfect match for Lamar.

Notably, the Chicago Bears ranked second in play-action rate last season under Doyle and in both of the last two seasons, Lamar ranked first in passer rating in play-action. At the same time, during Todd Monken's tenure, the Ravens ranked 29th in play-action rate.

Let's put aside the fact that Monken failed to utilize Lamar's skill set and focus on the positive side: Doyle is set to unleash what makes Jackson great. Lamar's passing abilities and the threat of Derrick Henry make the Ravens’ offense tailor-made to thrive in play-action and the numbers back this up.

Regarding Jackson specifically, his ability to make explosive plays as a passer and leaning into the play-action game with Doyle could help bring this advantage to light.

Despite some of Monken's downsides (and Greg Roman's downsides before him), the Ravens have routinely been one of the best offenses in the league. That's in large part a testament to Jackson's greatness.

The thought of Doyle helping Jackson and, in turn, the Ravens offense reach another level should put rival fans on edge.

Lamar Jackson could level up in the Baltimore Ravens new look offense

Doyle’s new system ensures that the Ravens will be less predictable. Without a doubt, utilizing the play-action game more will help them unlock some more unpredictability. Likewise, it could make Lamar and Doyle one of the most formidable QB-OC duos in the league.

The Ravens have all the talent in the world and that’s largely why they’ve had so much offensive success. Now, though, they finally have a system that will maximize their abilities. While this statement applies to the whole team, it especially applies to Jackson.

Lamar has already won two MVPs and is a top-three quarterback. Throughout his career, though, he’s never had a system that has fully maximized his talent, particularly as a passer. Doyle’s general focus on the passing game and explosive plays should greatly benefit Jackson. And a heavy dose of play-action should be a big part of this success.

It’s hard to imagine a two-time MVP leveling up, but that might be exactly what we see with Jackson this season.

The Ravens have long been an elite regular season team, but it’s time for them to win a Super Bowl. Jesse Minter and the Ravens’ new look defense should transform the team on one side of the ball, while Doyle’s new system will help maximize Baltimore’s offense.

Ravens fans should get their hopes up about how much Doyle can elevate Lamar and the rest of the offense. Conversely, other teams and fan bases should be concerned that the Ravens’ offense could become a legitimate juggernaut.
