Lamar Jackson gives coolest response possible to claiming NFL record
By Matt Sidney
After carving up the Denver Broncos and setting an NFL record with his fourth perfect passer rating, Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson didn’t need a long speech or flashy celebration. Instead, he delivered one of the coolest postgame lines in recent memory.
When asked how he managed such a historic performance with only one practice day last week, Jackson shrugged it off with a smile: “I knew what the assignment was.”
Only Lamar could pull that off. Most quarterbacks would need every snap of practice they could get before a big game, but for Jackson, a couple of rest days didn’t stand in his way. Despite being limited by back and knee soreness, he suited up and completed 16 of 19 passes for 280 yards and three touchdowns, giving him a perfect passer rating of 158.3.
With that performance, he joined former Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger as the NFL’s all-time leader in perfect passer rating games.
Lamar Jackson is built differently this season
Jackson’s ability to rise to the occasion isn’t new to Ravens fans, but his record-setting day against Denver is another chapter in his already legendary career.
The Broncos came into the game with a solid defense, but Jackson looked completely in control, even throwing three touchdown passes with as many incompletions. He was so efficient through the air that his usual scrambling wasn’t necessary. He ran just three times for four yards, letting Derrick Henry handle the ground game with 106 rushing yards and two scores.
What made Jackson’s response to the record even better was the understated confidence behind it.
“I knew what the assignment was” isn’t just a line; it’s a message Jackson understands his role as the leader of this team. Week after week, he’s showing whether it’s his arm, his legs, or just his presence, he’s ready to do what it takes to get the Ravens another win.
The Ravens are now 6-3 and have a short turnaround to face the Bengals on Thursday Night Football.
With every big moment, every postgame comment, it’s becoming clearer Jackson’s not just one of the NFL’s most electrifying players, he’s also one of its coolest.
