Maybe the boldest Lamar Jackson take yet just poured jet fuel on Ravens' 2025 comeback

The Baltimore Ravens have reemerged as playoff contenders in recent weeks. After an abysmal start to their 2025 campaign, posing a 1-5 record through six weeks, they have constructed an inspiring turnaround.

Entering their Week 11 contest against the Cleveland Browns, the Ravens own a record of 4-5, and are just one game out of first place in the AFC North. Many believe Baltimore is the favorite to win the division, and with superstar quarterback Lamar Jackson at the helm, anything is possible this year.

Sure, the team has its problems, especially with the offensive line, but Jackson has proved he is capable of leading the charge, no matter how the protection up front plays out. Since returning in Week 9, he has brought balance to the force on offense. While the offense has not been as explosive, the way he is steadily leading the unit tells the story of a group that has grown significantly since their early-season disaster.

Still, Jackson has not been free from criticism. It has followed him pretty much his entire NFL career, and while he has become an elite passing and running threat, the lack of success in the playoffs still has people doubting.

One NFL writer recently unleashed a piping hot take regarding the two-time MVP’s career.

Lamar Jackson hit with the boldest take maybe ever?

Bleacher Report’s Alex Kay released an article recently, listing the five most overrated quarterbacks in the league. Jackson took the number one spot on Kay’s list.

“Lamar Jackson may not just be one of today's most overrated active quarterbacks, but also of all time,” Kay wrote. “While his regular-season statistics and team success are undoubtedly impressive—his .737 winning percentage is one of the best in history—he hasn't found a way to deliver when it truly counts.”

“The Baltimore Ravens star has been a four-time Pro Bowler and three-time All-Pro for his inflated regular-season marks, but his two-time MVP status is borderline fraudulent. His credentials simply don't measure up to the other legends who have won the award on numerous occasions.”

Kay highlighted that Jackson is the only multi-time MVP without a Super Bowl to his name. Each of the other nine quarterbacks who have accomplished that feat has hoisted at least one Lombardi Trophy.

It is important to factor in that Kay’s heaviest weight being used in these rankings was playoff performance and postseason record. Jackson certainly falls short in that department, but calling him the most overrated quarterback in the league today, and perhaps of all time, could be pushing it.

While he has not necessarily lived up to his MVP status come playoff time, he has clearly been better in the postseason in recent years. Last season looked like the year the Ravens would break through, but a drop by tight end Mark Andrews on a two-point try to tie the game late ended their hopes. Coaching has also caught criticism over recent years.

It took five-time MVP Peyton Manning eight seasons before he finally won his first Super Bowl, and even his stats in his Super Bowl-winning seasons were terrible. In 2006, Manning threw three touchdowns and seven interceptions. In 2015, he was carried by the Denver Broncos’ defense, completing just 55.4% of his passes. Jackson is currently in his eighth season and is still just 28 years old. There is a ton of time for him to capture that Super Bowl.

Of course, he is not free from blame, but Jackson is objectively a Hall of Famer. There are plenty of other MVP-winning, Super Bowl-winning, and current NFL quarterbacks who have been labeled as elite quarterbacks in their respective years that deserve that overrated title more than Jackson. He has the respect the NFL year in and year out, and no amount of playoff struggles should list him as overrated.

In Jackson’s case, we are all still waiting for that playoff breakthrough. With the Ravens on a surge right now, maybe that comes this year.
