As the Baltimore Ravens prepare to host the Buffalo Bills at M&T Bank Stadium this Sunday night, all eyes are on Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson and Bills quarterback Josh Allen, both from the notable 2018 draft class.

Jackson and Allen’s rivalry has become one of the NFL’s more intriguing storylines. Their first meeting in 2019 saw Jackson dominate with a three-touchdown performance, leaving the Bills reeling in a cold December game in Buffalo.

The tables turned in the 2020 playoffs, when Allen led the Bills to victory, capitalizing on a game-changing pick-six off Jackson. Their most recent encounter featured a stunning 17-point comeback led by Allen, solidifying his reputation as a clutch performer.

These matchups trace the rise of two quarterbacks who’ve defied early doubts. Jackson, once questioned for his dual-threat style and drafted last in the first round, has dazzled with his playmaking. Meanwhile, Allen, picked seventh overall and initially doubted for his accuracy, has evolved into a cornerstone for the Bills.

With the stage set for another dramatic clash, this game is about more than just standings—it’s the next chapter in the ongoing saga of two of the NFL’s most dynamic leaders. Fans are eagerly watching to see who will seize the spotlight.

Lamar Jackson quietly admires Josh Allen (in his own way)

Jackson isn’t caught up in the narratives surrounding his matchups. While he respects Allen, Jackson isn’t one to gush over opponents. Before facing Kansas City’s Patrick Mahomes in Week 1, he acknowledged Mahomes as a “great quarterback” but noted that they don’t have a personal relationship and he doesn’t model his game after anyone.

Jackson treats Sunday’s showdown at a packed M&T Bank Stadium like any other game, focusing on getting the win rather than the quarterback comparisons fans and analysts love to debate.

"It's always going to be that way as long as we are in the league," Jackson told reporters. "I really don't know how people will judge it or what people will say, I'm just going out there trying to get a dub. To be honest, I really don't care who's out there playing [against us]. I'm just trying to get a win. That's all I'm doing, is just doing what I can do with my ability to help my team get in the win column. So, I approach those games just like any other game, just like I always say."

Josh Allen is very open about his admiration for Lamar

Allen, on the other hand, is full of admiration for Jackson. On Wednesday, he called Jackson an “inspiration to many across the country,” praising him for silencing doubters and earning two MVPs through his resilience and work ethic. Allen even described Jackson as a revolutionary for the quarterback position.

"I think he's really changed the way that guys play the game," Allen said. "But make no mistake about it. He can throw the snot out of the football. I've got a lot of respect for him, a lot of love for him. I love watching him play because every play is never dead with him. You know, he's got a crazy ability to keep plays alive, and make guys miss, and get the ball down the field. He's a special player."

Though Jackson and Allen show their respect differently—Jackson staying reserved and Allen more open in his admiration—it’s clear both recognize each other’s talents. With Sunday Night Football on the horizon, fans are in for a treat as these two elite quarterbacks go head-to-head once again.
