Whether you believe Zay Flowers is a true No. 1 wide receiver or not, the Baltimore Ravens star is fun to watch. He brings video game-like moves to the field on every snap, and when he has the ball in his hands, look out! His speed and elusiveness are off the charts.
Flowers recently got the praise he’s been deserving of over the last two years. He earned a spot on the NFL Top 100 after a spectacular 2025 campaign, placing 71st on the list.
Every time a player is revealed on that ranking, they’re showered with praise from their peers. For Flowers, he already has the respect of one of his newest teammates: Jaylinn Hawkins.
During the segment, Hawkins was in awe of the way that Flowers operates, and in his words, the 25-year-old is like a DJ.

Jaylinn Hawkins is getting a firsthand look at why Baltimore Ravens WR Zay Flowers is special
Jaylinn Hawkins has squared off against Zay Flowers twice in his career—once in 2023 when he was with the Los Angeles Chargers and again last year as a member of the New England Patriots. He already knew a little bit of why Flowers is such a special player, but now after signing with the Ravens in free agency, he’s getting a firsthand look in practice. And man, that has to be agonizing.
We haven’t hit training camp yet, so pads aren’t on, and live contact isn’t permitted, which means Hawkins hasn’t been introduced to the full Zay Flowers experience this offseason. However, part of what makes Flowers such a tough matchup is unbelievable route-running chops. That’s definitely an area that Hawkins has gotten more than just a slight glimpse of at this point.
Not many separate like Flowers. He’s about as good as it gets in that department. His footwork is electric to watch, and it seems he always finds space when the quarterback needs him most. To prove it, he’s in the upper echelon when it comes to route win rate, as well as yards per route run.
8 WRs hit the following thresholds in 2025:

+ Yards per route run above 2.00
+ Route win rate above 15%
(Source: @FantasyPtsData)
3.85 - Puka Nacua (16.4%)
3.74 - Jaxon Smith-Njigba (18.0%)
2.61 - Zay Flowers (16.0%)
2.45 - George Pickens (15.8%)
2.44 - Nico Collins (15.4%)…
That separation ability translates to production. Over the course of his three-year career, he’s tallied 237 receptions on 342 targets. That’s good for a 69.3% catch rate. That pretty clearly underscores his reliability as a pass catcher.
For Hawkins, it’s great to have a player like Flowers to go up against in team scrimmages. Sure, the Ravens might lack proven depth at wideout right now, but Flowers is a guy who will battle-test every member of that secondary. With alignment versatility to line up as a slot corner, Hawkins will see more than his fair share of the Boston College product in the coming months.
They say iron sharpens iron, and the presence of Flowers will certainly make Hawkins a better player. The same goes for Flowers, too, as Hawkins was one of the better safeties in the NFL in 2025 and comes over to build quite possibly the best safety unit that the sport has to offer.
