If there’s one player the Baltimore Ravens need back more than anything, it’s Nnamdi Madubuike. They can't go another season without him patrolling the defensive front.
In 2025, Ravens fans held their breath after a neck injury held Madubuike out for all but two games. Fortunately, he’s been making progress toward a return.
That progress was so substantial that Baltimore decided to keep him on the active roster. They could’ve been extra careful and stashed him on IR, but that would’ve meant Madubuike wouldn’t play in the first four games and wouldn’t be able to practice either. It sure sounds like he’ll be ready sometime within that stretch.
Jesse Minter’s update on Madubuike only added to the encouraging signs.
“[Madubuike’s] progressing more and more,” Minter said. “When [you place him on IR], you’re talking about [missing] four games. I don’t see him missing that many games…He’s in a really good position.”
This might be the best news possible.
Nnamdi Madubuike should be on track to play early in Baltimore Ravens’ 2026 season
It sure sounds like Nnamdi Madubuike will be playing early on in the 2026 campaign. Now, it does seem like there's some uncertainty for Week 1, but that’s fine. Neck injuries are no joke, and Madubuike should take every game he needs.
And if you’re the Ravens, Madubuike missing the season-opener and another game or two isn’t the worst thing in the world. They don't play a 2025 playoff team until the Buffalo Bills in Week 8. There’s no rush to get him back for matchups with the Indianapolis Colts or New Orleans Saints—Baltimore has the talent to compete with them with or without Madubuike.
However it plays out, you have to be ecstatic to hear this news. It’s a complete game-changer.
Since being drafted in the third round of the 2020 NFL Draft, Madubuike has developed into one of the best interior defensive linemen that the league has to offer. He’s an absolute wrecking ball in the middle.
Madubuike broke out in 2023, tallying 13 sacks and earning Pro Bowl and second-team All-Pro honors. He followed that up with another Pro Bowl season in 2024 and was off to a great start last year before the neck injury took him out of action.
Baltimore’s 2025 defense was already trending down a horrendous path with Madubuike on the field, but they became an absolutely shameful unit to watch during his absence.
It became clear that Madubuike was the team’s only real pass-rush presence. He somehow finished tied for sixth on the team with two sacks after playing in just two contests.
In 2026, though, not only is Madubuike on pace to make a quick return, he’s in the middle of what could be a dominant stable on the Ravens’ defensive line.
Madubuike will get to take the field alongside the likes of Trey Hendrickson, Calais Campbell, and Zion Young, while Mike Green, Tavius Robinson, and Travis Jones remain in the fray. With Jesse Minter calling the shots, too, things could be terrifying for opposing offenses.
There’s no telling the kind of damage Baltimore’s new-look defense could do. And perhaps the biggest addition might be a healthy Nnamdi Madubuike.
