While the Baltimore Ravens have grown to have a formidable passing attack, they can always lean on one thing: running the football. It’s been their speciality for their entire history.
After Derrick Henry joined the squad in 2024, that rushing attack became an even bigger strength. Combining a run-dominant franchise with one of the best running backs the league has ever seen is a terrifying sight to see if you’re an opposing defense. The scary part is, it could get even better in 2026.
The Ravens prioritized the offensive line in the offseason, putting together a strong five-man unit. Perhaps the biggest factor in the running game isn’t actually the additions of John Simpson and Vega Ioane, though; it might be rising offensive tackle Roger Rosengarten. The third-year pro has been looking to better his run blocking going into training camp.
Roger Rosengarten can help Baltimore Ravens’ rushing attack reach greater heights
Rosengarten has become a pretty solid blocker on the right side of Baltimore’s offensive line. Since taking over the starting role in Week 4 of the 2024 campaign, the Washington product has started every possible game. He’s become a reliable mainstay up front.
Still, there’s room for Rosengarten to develop. He’s mentioned that he wants to make a star-level leap in 2026, one that sees him respected as an elite player. To do that, he needs to take off as a run blocker.
Dating back to his college days, Rosengarten has been more known for his ability as a pass protector. In an interview at training camp, he admitted that, and highlighted that he has work to do to become a dominant run blocker.
“I want to assert my dominance in the run game,” Rosengarten said. “Especially now with what Declan [Doyle’s] got cooking up, and Coach [Ledford] and the fundamentals he’s implied on the o-lineman: speed off the ball and being physical at the point of attack…it’s time to put it all together.”
If you’re Derrick Henry, you have to be smiling ear to ear. Rosengarten has grown into a stable pass blocker and has made some significant strides as a run blocker, too. But if there’s one more tier to that development, Henry could have a lot of fun this year.
Despite playing behind a horrific offensive line in 2025, Henry still amassed 1,595 rushing yards (second in the NFL), 16 touchdowns (also second), and 5.2 yards per carry (third). That’s an electric showing, and although there were some hiccups along the way, he was as close to unstoppable as it gets down the stretch. Now, he gets an actual competent line paving the way in front of him.
If Rosengarten takes the strides he envisions, he could be the key that unlocks another 2,000-yard season for Henry. With what should be a strong interior, the third-year pro will be the man asked to seal rushing lanes and set the edge. It sounds like he’s ready to rise to that challenge.
