Cam Cameron Gets Ravens Offense Up to Speed

AUTHOR: jarrettcarter | IN: Ravens | COMMENTS: None Yet

Interesting development out of this week’s voluntary mini-camp, as Cam Cameron disclosed that the Baltimore Ravens’ offense is learning the new system at game speed. Route running, play clock management, and other important aspects of learning the new playbook are being conducting through simulations of real game time.
“You have to create one pace,” Cameron said. “You can’t have a practice pace, and then a game pace, especially in the passing game. You can’t run routes at a certain pace in practice, and then at another pace in a game. Everything has to be simulated at game speed.”
Simple enough.

Discovering the Council of Baltimore Ravens Roosts

AUTHOR: jarrettcarter | IN: Ravens | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

Having been in Baltimore my entire adulthood, I’ve always seen Ravens Roost flags and banners in my jaunts around town, but I never realized that the bars were part of an organized network dedicated to promoting professional football in Charm City. That is, until I found up about their annual convention going on in Ocean City this weekend.
The Council of Ravens Roosts is serious about their Baltimore Ravens, and community philanthropy as well. More than 5,000 fans from Maryland, Delaware and Pennsylvania are expected to descend on the beach this weekend for charity golf tournaments, parades and auctions.
For more than [...]

Freddie Mitchell? The Ravens Can’t Possibly Be Serious

AUTHOR: jarrettcarter | IN: Ravens | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

This has to be some kind of cruel, delayed joke. The Baltimore Ravens can’t possibly be that desperate for help at wide receiver.
Freddie Mitchell?
Are you kidding?
This dude was a freakin’ substitute teacher at one point. No one has had more mouth with less talent in the history of the NFL. Freddie Mitchell? FredEx?
Please, Ravens. Don’t insult Derrick Mason, Mark Clayton and Demetrius Williams like this. Just let everyone know that it’s a ploy to make him some practice squad loot for the summer. Jerry Rice? Maybe. But whatever you do, the People’s Champ belongs nowhere near Charm City.
Unless you are [...]

Will Troy Smith be the Opening Day Starter for the Ravens?

AUTHOR: jarrettcarter | IN: Ravens | COMMENTS: 4 Comments

If you ask other Baltimore Ravens’ players, the answer could be yes. So far in camp, Troy Smith has outplayed resident quarterback evil Kyle Boller in drills thus far, and has captured the attention of media, veterans and coaches.
Ravens coach John Harbaugh has said no one is going to win a position battle during these non-contact workouts, but it was tough to ignore Smith’s performance Wednesday.
The former Heisman Trophy winner hit his tight ends in stride deep down the middle of the field and then showed great touch when he threaded a 15-yard pass between two defenders for a touchdown [...]

Jamal Lewis Talks Trash About Baltimore Ravens

AUTHOR: jarrettcarter | IN: Ravens | COMMENTS: 8 Comments

Jamal Lewis was the cornerstone of the Baltimore Ravens offense for a long time, but we all know stones have a strange habit of rolling under the right amount of pressure. Lewis eventually rolled on to the Cleveland Browns, and last year he looked like he was on the path to regaining the form that earned him 2,066 yard rushing in 2003.
And now, he’s talking about why it didn’t work out for him in B-More.
“The first seven years of my career,” the running back said of his time with the Ravens, “the offense was all focused on Jamal Lewis [...]

Ravens Cheerleader is Budding Blogger

AUTHOR: jarrettcarter | IN: Ravens | COMMENTS: 3 Comments

I haven’t really discussed it much in this space, but the Baltimore Ravens Cheerleaders recently finished shooting on their first ever team calendar. There’s so much to like about this cheerleading squad, not just because of their beauty, but because one of them has joined the ranks of the basement dwellers.
Leslie A., has been blogging from the Ravens Cheerleaders shoot location in the Dominican Republic, detailing all of the activities and frolicking we all wish we were privy to.
And talk about prolific, Leslie A. is averaging about five posts a year, which is much better than my first attempt at [...]

The Ravens Wanted Better for David Archuleta

AUTHOR: jarrettcarter | IN: Ravens | COMMENTS: None Yet

To no one’s surprise, David Cook won American Idol last night. To my surprise, some Baltimore Ravens players disagreed with the outcome.
“I think that David Cook will be more successful, period,” said long-snapper Matt Katula with a laugh. “But, judging by Tuesday’s show, there was no question that David Archuleta was going to win. It was pretty interesting to see Cook take the win, but Archuleta has some pipes. He’s like the reincarnation of Clay Aiken.
Well, at least you know the Ravens are as secure a bunch of guys as you’ll find. Not only do they claim allegiance to the [...]

More Moves in the Defensive Backfield For Ravens

AUTHOR: jarrettcarter | IN: Ravens | COMMENTS: None Yet

From the Carroll County Times, the Ravens have cut reserve defensive back Jamaine Winborn and signed veteran corner Lenny Walls.
Winborn was the leading tackler on special teams last season with 21, while Walls has been a journeyman for most of his NFL career, bouncing around with the likes of the St. Louis Rams, Oakland Raiders, Denver Broncos and Kansas City Chiefs.
He is pretty tall though. 6′4″ makes for incredible matchups on taller receivers. Walls
Anybody else seeing that smoke signal over Chris McAlister’s head?

What the CBA Collapse Means for the Baltimore Ravens

AUTHOR: jarrettcarter | IN: Ravens | COMMENTS: None Yet

In case you haven’t heard, the NFL owners unanimously agreed that the players get too much money, and opted out of their collective bargaining agreement. The short of it is that in 2011, the NFL will possibly face a season with no salary cap, if there’s a season at all.
So it begs the question, what does this mean for the Baltimore Ravens?
Primarily, it casts a light on the contract situations of eight players currently on the roster and their futures with the franchise; Jonathan Ogden, Ray Lewis, Samari Rolle, Derrick Mason, Trevor Pryce, Terrell Suggs and Bart Scott. There’s a [...]
