Mark Clayton, Oklahoma, 5’10” 195 LBS

Clayton is the only other wide receiver the Ravens have selected in the first round in team history with the 22nd overall pick in the 2005 NFL draft. In college Clayton set a record for career receiving yards with 3,241.

Clayton’s rookie season with the Ravens started very slowly due to injuries, and he finished the year with 44 receptions for 471 yards and two touchdowns, adding eight rushes for 33 yards and one touchdown on the ground.  His sophomore showed much more promise as he racked up 939 yards on 67 catches with five receiving touchdowns, but after that Clayton’s production started to decline.

Clayton was eventually traded to the St. Louis Rams in September 2010 along with a seventh round draft pick in the 2011 NFL draft. During his first game with the Rams Clayton caught ten passes for 119 yards and scored two touchdowns.

In week five Clayton was placed on injury reserve with a torn patellar tendon in his right knee, which ended his season. In 2013, Clayton announced his retirement from football, finishing his career with 260 receptions for 3,448 yards and 14 touchdowns.

After five seasons with the Ravens, Clayton amassed 3,116 yards on 234 catches and five touchdowns, but never proved himself worthy of his first round selection.
