Is the NFL Becoming a Scapegoat?
Amid Jim Tressel resigning from Ohio State, (Yeah, it’s Ohio State. Not that stupid “THE” Ohio State. Like there’s another one?) all the NCAA violations even being found in the heart-warming Boise State, and even the first over-all draft pick (Cam Newton) being rumored to have violations mucking up his path to the draft, I’m beginning to wonder if there will be a harsher SMU-like “death penalty” soon going out across all of college. Whenever analyst talk about transferring from the collegiate level to the professional level, it seems like all those bad memories seem to magically disappear like it never happened. Which really doesn’t make a lot of sense [...]
Anthony Allen Has Something To Prove
The Baltimore Ravens’ seventh round draft pick “wants to make all the other teams that passed on him sick to their stomach.” Anthony Allen has taken great insult to being drafted so late. The former Georgia Tech running back has a big chip on his shoulder and wishes to show the rest of the league what they passed on. In college, Allen proved to be a big threat in Georgia Tech’s triple option running attack where he rushed for 1,934 yards and 12 touchdowns in two seasons.
Happy Memorial Day From Us At EbonyBird
Though this is a holiday for many of us, let’s not forget why. Thank you to all our current troops overseas and the troops from our past that allow us to live in this country the way we do today. Without the courageous efforts brought forth by these men, this country would not be the same. Thanks to all of the fallen heroes whose sacrifice was not in vain. Happy Memorial Day to all who serve!
In NFL Network’s Top 100 NFL Players of 2011, Ray Rice came in at #56. Maurice Jones Drew presented Ray and had some kind things to say about the Baltimore runningback. However, MJD wanted to make sure that everyone knows that he is better looking than Ray. He has been saying this for awhile as seen in the video below:
Jared Gaither’s Back Is “Totally Healed”
According to the Carroll County Times, Baltimore Ravens’ offensive tackle Jared Gaither has made a full recovery from his back injury. Gaither had a thoracic disk injury which kept him sidelined all of last season. His agent, Drew Rosenhaus tweeted “Jared Gaither’s back is totally healed.” Pending a team physical and clearence, Gaither should be all set for next year. However, it is unclear whether he will be a restricted or unrestricted free agent without a collective bargaining agreement.
Baltimore Ravens’ Players Seen Practicing
Earlier this week, Derrick Mason, Ray Rice and Joe Flacco were some of the many Baltimore Ravens’ players practicing this week at Towson University. With official workouts unable to be scheduled due to the lockout, it’s important to still get some practice in so younger players can get a grasp of the game. Torrey Smith, Tyrod Taylor, and Anthony Allen were among the rookies at the player-organized workout. However, first round draft pick Jimmy Smith did not attend. The players mainly worked on route running, passing drills, as well as some conditioning. Though that goes a long way, the bonding [...]
Baltimore Ravens A Part Of Top 20 2010 NFL Games
NFL.com is counting down the top 20 games of last season. So far, the Baltimore Ravens are featured in two of them. One’s good and the other not so good. But regardless, these two games will live in Ravens’ infamy for many years to come… (More After The Jump)
Here’s To You, Matt Stover
Here’s to you, Matt Stover. Here’s to one of the greatest—and most underrated—place kickers in NFL history. Here’s to you being able to retire a Baltimore Raven. Here’s to you being the third most accurate kicker in NFL history. Here’s to you single-handedly providing the offense for the 2000 Ravens team that won the Super Bowl in Tampa on January 28, 2001. Here’s to you for all the memories you provided us Ravens fans. For sticking it out with us for so long, and last but not least… You left us after the 2008 season in nothing but a class [...]
New NFL Rule Changes
The NFL has added, removed, and changed some rules that will make a big impact next season. As expected, all of these will attempt to improve player safety, something heavily talked about last season. “Launching” at players (leaving feet prior to contact) will now be penalized/fined. Also, The defenseless receiver rule has been redefined. Now, the referee must judge whether or not the ball carrier has the ability to avoid contact. If they are unable to and the player is still hit, there will be an unnecessary roughness penalty as well as possible fines. Before, a player with control of [...]
Matt Stover To Announce Retirement Thursday
After 19 NFL seasons, the long time Baltimore Ravens’ kicker is finally hanging up the cleats. Matt Stover will forever be known in Baltimore as a great person on and off the field. Drafted by the Giants in 1990, Stover played for the Cleveland Browns until they moved to Baltimore and stayed with them until 2008. He also replaced the injured Colts’ kicker, Adam Vinatieri, in 2009. Stover is currently in the top 10 for every kicking statistic and holds the record for most consecutive PATs with 422. Hats off to Matt Stover for a stellar proffestional career.
